A classic in the three-row family SUV class, the 2025 Ford Explorer stands out with its athletic looks, trail-ready performance, and roomy, well-crafted cabin. Four trims are available, making it easy to pick an Explorer for your daily commutes, road trips, and off-road fun.
Active
Available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, the entry-level Active model features a 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 300 horsepower. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic and a six-mode drive system that lets you switch between Normal, Eco, Sport, Tow/Haul, Slippery, and Off Road modes to suit the conditions. The Active model can tow 5,000 pounds with the standard Class III tow package and includes trailer sway control tech to enhance safety.
The cabin seats six with standard second-row captain’s chairs, tri-zone automatic climate control, and heated, power-adjustable front seats. Up front, there’s a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 13.2-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. This trim also includes a six-speaker stereo, USB ports in all three rows, a rearview camera with backup grid lines, and an optional panoramic moonroof.
ST-Line
Building on the base model, the ST-Line offers seating for seven, with optional second-row captain’s chairs. It adds heated second-row seats and rear climate controls, allowing personalized comfort for backseat passengers. The driver gets a heated, leather steering wheel and parking assists, such as front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera with split view.
The ST-Line steps up the sound quality with a standard 10-speaker B&O sound system. It’s available with a wireless charging pad, ambient lighting, and a useful cargo setup that helps you organize items in the trunk. With the optional Ford BlueCruise tech, you can enjoy hands-free driving on select highways.
ST
The ST comes standard with a 3.0L V6 engine that amps up the output to 400 horsepower. It rides on 21-inch wheels and features a sport-tuned suspension that makes rides feel more responsive. Inside, you’ll find upgrades such as ActiveX-trimmed seats and a heated sport-style steering wheel, both with the ST logo.
Ventilated front seats are standard, along with power-folding third-row seats, ambient lighting, and a wireless charging pad. An auto-dimming rearview mirror is included to protect your eyes from the glare of headlights behind you. You’ll also find handy features like rain-sensing windshield wipers and fog lights.
Platinum
The Platinum trim carries over the base powertrain, but it’s also available with the 3.0L V6 engine. Inside, it’s outfitted with leather-trimmed seats for a more upscale feel. You’ll also get a premium B&O sound system with 14 speakers and a standard moonroof with a power shade.
