Your safety is very important to Ford, and your new vehicle includes the Ford Co-Pilot360 driver assistance system. It’s a range of features that protect you and your passengers by warning of potential danger. We want to tell you about some of your Ford safety features and how they keep you safe.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Cruise control has been around for many years, and it helps make long-distance driving easier. You set the speed you want, and the system will maintain it. Ford’s modern version of this system provides even more useful features to make driving easier and safer.

You can set the following distance, and your cruise control will slow down or speed up if necessary to maintain the distance. Your cruise control also includes Speed Sign Recognition, Stop-and-Go, and Lane-Centering. We’ll look at how these systems work.

Speed Sign Recognition

This feature uses a camera to identify posted speed limits on your route and automatically adjust your speed to comply.

Stop-and-Go

When driving in heavy traffic, this system will slow and stop your vehicle whenever necessary. It automatically increases speed when it detects the vehicle in front of you moving.

Lane Centering

This system uses a camera to identify the lane line markings and helps keep you centered in your lane. It temporarily deactivates if your direction indicator is active or you steer into another lane.

Auto High-Beam Headlamps

High beams enable you to see further and more clearly at night, but they can also temporarily blind or distract other drivers. This feature uses sensors that can detect the taillights or headlights of other vehicles on the road. When lights are detected, it automatically switches to low beams. Once the lights have disappeared, your headlamps revert to high beams.

Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking

This system uses radar and a camera to watch the area directly in front of your Ford. If another vehicle is detected, it quickly assesses the vehicle speeds and the distance between them. If the distance between your Ford and the other vehicle rapidly closes, you’ll hear warning beeps and a warning icon appears on your front screen.

If a collision is imminent, and you haven’t hit the brakes, the system initiates emergency braking. Depending on the situation your brakes may gently slow and stop your Ford or bring you to an instant stop.

Lane-Keeping System

If you’re driving when tired, you could easily cross the lane lines without realizing it. If another vehicle is traveling in the neighboring lane, this can cause an accident. This system provides audio alerts if you move across the lane lines without actively steering in that direction.
