Take Care of the Battery

Don't Overcharge

Fully charging an EV's battery to 100 percent actually strains and harms the battery, lessening its long-term capacity. It's best to remain beneath 80 percent of a full charge at all times.

Don't Undercharge

Allowing your battery to fully deplete causes similar wear and tear. Try to keep at least a 20 percent charge. That leaves 20 to 80 percent as the sweet spot for optimal battery longevity.

Avoid Fast Charging

While it's very convenient and occasionally unavoidable to use a fast-charging station, try not to make fast charging the norm. More sedate 120 and 240-volt charging is far more gentle and good for the battery's lifespan.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures

Both excessive heat and cold can damage your EV's battery. In Florida, heat is clearly the greatest threat. Try to park your car out of direct sunlight and maintain your battery pack's cooling system at all costs.

Look After Your Brakes

You'll need to have your brakes inspected twice a year, with worn-out brake pads and rotors quickly replaced. Always keep an eye on your brake fluid and lines, and respond promptly to any indications of brake trouble.

Maintain Your Tires

Your tires are likely to wear down unevenly to some degree. This common phenomenon can be countered with regular tire rotations: twice a year is enough for most drivers. And check frequently to ensure the air pressure in each tire is precisely the PSI it's supposed to be.

Replace Your Air Filters

The various air filters throughout your car keep the interior components protected from insects, dirt, dust, and other debris. However, these filters gradually clog up and you'll typically need to replace the air filter of your engine, battery, and cabin once a year.

Ford Air Conditioning Maintenance: Stay Cool All Year Round

No one wants to drive on a hot day in Florida without AC. If you have an AC not working, your friendly Ford dealer is here to help. We can repair any AC problem, and some issues can even be resolved while you wait. We want to tell you more about some AC issues we can repair. more Broken Compressor Clutch The compressor's job is to control the flow of air through the AC system. It's controlled by the compressor clutch, which switches on and off during the process. If you listen very closely when it's quiet, you might hear a slight click from the clutch. The clutch isn't as robust as the compressor and can eventually jam. If the clutch jams open, the compressor will continue to run and eventually burn itself out. A clutch that jams closed, in contrast, will prevent the compressor from starting, and your AC system won't work. We'll examine the clutch and replace it if it's jammed. We'll also test your compressor to ensure it hasn't been damaged by the faulty clutch. Leaking Refrigerant Refrigerant is a colorless and odorless gas. It's also an essential part of your AC system as it helps to remove humidity from the air and is responsible for chilling the air before it blows into the cabin. Worn seals or a hole in the cooling system can cause refrigerant to leak out and you'll notice the air blowing from the AC will become warmer. Tracing a refrigerant leak is impossible without specialized equipment, as refrigerant evaporates when it contacts the outside air. We can easily trace a leak using a special UV dye. The dye is added to the refrigerant, and our technicians use a UV viewer to trace the dye's movement through the system. Once we locate the leak site, we'll seal it and then refill the refrigerant. Blocked Vents Air enters the AC through a small vent just below your windshield. Once the air has chilled, it then blows through the dash vents into your cabin. If any of these vents are blocked, your AC won't work correctly. The external vent can easily become blocked by leaves, dirt, and other debris. This restricts airflow and could even prevent the AC from working. A blockage in the ducts will restrict the speed of the air flowing into your cabin, and you'll usually hear rustling noises from the debris as the air passes over it. We can quickly fix either of these issues by clearing any blockages, and airflow will return to normal.
